Not In Love by Ali Hazelwood - Review

Not In Love is an easy favorite for me. As a fan of Ali Hazelwood's work, I’ve consistently enjoyed her books. The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain are titles I think about almost daily, and I gave Love Theoretically a solid 5 stars. I also appreciated Bride and am eagerly anticipating the next book in that universe.
Before diving into Not In Love, I stumbled upon some negative Goodreads reviews which made me a bit apprehensive, especially since I was coming out of a reading slump. Thankfully, my concerns were unfounded, as I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. I found it absolutely amazing.
In my opinion, Not In Love is a more refined version of Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez, a book I rated 4 stars. While Not In Love faced criticism for being “too spicy" and lacking "chemistry," I believe these criticisms are interconnected. Hazelwood’s previous books focused less on spice, leading to different relationship dynamics. The added spice in this book allowed for a more physical development in the characters' relationship, which I felt contributed to a new and compelling kind of chemistry.
The story revolves around two individuals working on opposite sides of a tense workplace takeover. Although the plot involves some strategic withholding of information, it relies on clear communication and avoids the common miscommunication trope.
I highly recommend giving Not In Love a try and forming your own opinion. It’s now my favorite Ali Hazelwood book and one of my top 5-star reads of 2024.
