Tessa Bailey’s It Happened One Summer is a delightful blend of charm and chemistry. This was my first Tessa Bailey book and it quickly became a favorite book of mine. I gave this book a quick and solid 5 stars. Since then I have rated a few of Tessa Bailey’s books 5 stars, but this one remains my favorite. This novel is on my list of books I wish I could read for the first time again. It encapsulates everything I love in a romance novel and had me swooning most of the book.
Set in a picturesque fishing town in Washington State, It Happened One Summer combines humor, romance, and character development in a way that is both engaging and heartwarming. The book tells the story of a woman named Piper who finds herself in a small fishing town after an issue with her wealthy family. With nowhere else to go she moves into a small apartment above a restaurant with her sister. While there she meets Brendan, a no-nonsense fisherman who thinks that Piper and her sister should just go back to where they came from. Through some trials and tribulations, they end up falling for each other and the outcome is this funny romance novel.
Bailey's writing is both entertaining and emotionally resonant, making this book an ideal escape into a small-town romance. The characters are well-developed, and their chemistry is palpable, making for a compelling and satisfying read. The balance between humor and heat is perfectly executed, leaving readers both smiling and yearning for more. It also has great side characters and an interesting enough plot that the romance is able to shine, without it becoming boring.
I highly recommend It Happened One Summer for anyone looking for a heartwarming and sexy romance that captures the essence of small-town love stories with a modern twist. It’s a book that will leave a lasting impression.
