Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer– Review
Rating: ★★★★★
If you’re looking for a book that’s laugh-out-loud funny, filled with swoon-worthy romance, and packed with just the right amount of adventure, Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Maehrer is the perfect pick. This cozy romantasy blends the charm of Once Upon a Broken Heart with the office banter of sitcom, creating a lighthearted yet engaging read that’s impossible to resist.
Evie Sage is in desperate need of a job, and when fate (or, rather, a hilarious mishap) lands her a position as the assistant to the kingdom’s most infamous Villain, she takes it—severed heads, mysterious sabotage, and all. The Villain himself is grumpy, brooding, and terrifyingly attractive, making for a sunshine-meets-darkness dynamic that is pure perfection. Their slow-burn romance is full of tension and charm, and every interaction between them is a delight to read.
This book is full of warmth and humor, making it perfect for anyone who loves a feel-good fantasy with romance at its core. While the romance is the heart of the book, the mystery and intrigue surrounding the Villain’s empire add depth, keeping you hooked from start to finish. There were some twists that genuinely surprised me! Instead of a dark, angsty fantasy, this book leans into the fun, charming side of villainy, making it a unique and delightful read.
I adored this book! It gave me all the good feelings and was the perfect cozy read. If you love romance, humor, and fantasy blended together effortlessly, I highly recommend picking it up. Plus, with book two already out and book three coming in August, there’s plenty more to look forward to!
