It’s not every day a book takes the fantasy world by storm, but Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros has done just that—and for good reason. With high-stakes action, an intense training academy, and a fierce, intelligent heroine, this book packs a punch from start to finish.
Violet Sorrengail was supposed to be a scribe, buried in books instead of battling for survival. But when her ruthless general of a mother forces her to train as a dragon rider, she’s thrown into Basgiath War College, where the rules are simple: graduate or die. Being small, fragile, and underestimated, Violet is constantly fighting to prove herself, especially when some of her fellow cadets see her as an easy target. Xaden Riorson, the brooding and powerful wingleader, is one of them—but their dynamic quickly becomes one of the most compelling aspects of the book.
Violet isn’t just powerful—she’s clever, using her wits to navigate the dangerous world of dragon riding. The world-building is rich and immersive, with plenty of mystery, betrayal, and high-stakes battles to keep you hooked. There is also a fair amount of spice. The book covers an entire year, and the pacing (including time jumps) keeps the story moving at just the right speed. Violet’s growth feels natural, making her journey all the more satisfying.
Fourth Wing absolutely lives up to the hype. The combination of action, romance, and a gripping storyline makes it an addictive read, and as Violet’s world starts unraveling, I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. If you love intense training schools, dragons, and strong heroines, this is a must-read!
