Easy Bookish Halloween Costumes

1-Kingsly from Assistant to the Villian

Kingsly is a frog who wears a crown and has a magical sign that he can communicate with. This costume would be so cute and would be understood by almost anyone. It’s a simple frog costume, with a crown, and a sign that says something cheeky. Examples would be “help” or “halp”. Kingsly uses his sign to communicate short phrases in the book, so whatever you want to put on it would work. Maybe write “Happy Halloween” or “Trick or Treat”.

2-Lucien or Tamlin from A Court of Thorns and Roses

In the books, Lucien and Tamlin, along with other members of the Spring Court get masks magically stuck to their faces. This is a fun costume that again can be understood by everyone on some level. You would wear an outfit of your choice, though something pirate or historical like would most accurately represent the Spring Court, with a fox (or other) mask.

3-Legend from Caraval

Legend is a magician who is often wearing a top hat. For this look, you could simply dress up in a tuxedo or similar and don a top hat, or dress like a magician and wear a top hat. The great thing about this is your bookish friends will get it, while everyone else will still think you're dressed up as a magician. This adds a layer to the costume because Legend is often blending in and wearing disguises.

4- A Leading Lady

In a lot of fantasy books, we have our main female character being described in long beautiful dresses with a dagger strapped to their thigh. For this costume, a dress with a leg slit would work best where you can attach your (fake) dagger to your thigh to show off. With some red hair and a white dress, you could be Poppy from From Blood and Ash. A dark blue dress with sparkles and you could be Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses. Blonde hair and a green or gold dress and you could be Aelin from Throne of Glass. With this costume the options are limitless, and you can also just be yourself as a fantasy main character.

5- The Hunger Games

Finally, some fun costume ideas would be some throwbacks to older books. You could bring back Katniss with her signature braid and cargo pants from The Hunger Games. You could also be Lucy Gray from the newer books and have an excuse to buy a cute rainbow dress. You could also dress up as any of the other players in the game and fix up your outfit with a mocking jay pin. Another fun idea would be to wear an extravagant outfit and wig and be a citizen of the capital.
