Slipstream by Madge Maril - Review

I absolutely adored this book. It was cute, thoughtful, romantic, and genuinely so much fun to read. I flew through it in an afternoon because I simply could not put it down. Between the Formula 1 setting, the revenge plot, and the steamy romance, this book had all the ingredients for a perfect, giddy reading experience.

Lilah was such a relatable and likable main character. She’s passionate, career driven, and navigating both heartbreak and betrayal in a way that felt real without being overly dramatic. I loved that she wasn’t perfect, but she was always trying to stay true to herself and her work.

Then there is Arthur, his story of wanting redemption, of proving not only to the world but to himself that he’s capable of more, added so much emotional depth to the romance. I loved seeing him open up to Lilah and trust her. Their partnership slowly turning into something more was written so well and didn’t feel rushed at all.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the communication. No unnecessary, drawn out misunderstandings. They actually talked to each other. They were honest about their feelings, their fears, and their motivations. It was honestly refreshing and made their relationship feel mature and healthy, even in the middle of chaos and revenge plotting.

The Formula 1 backdrop made everything feel elevated and high-stakes without being confusing or overwhelming. Even if you know nothing about racing, it’s still incredibly easy to follow and adds such an exciting atmosphere to the story. The behind the scenes look at the sport, the travel, the pressure, and the politics gave the book an extra layer that made it stand out from a typical romance.

Overall, Slipstream was warm, swoony, empowering, and just plain enjoyable. It’s one of those books that makes you smile while you’re reading it and leave you in a better mood when you finish. If you like fake dating, forced proximity, revenge that turns into romance, and characters who actually communicate, I could not recommend this one more.

This was a 5-star, no hesitation kind of read for me.
