Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson - Review

This book made me crash out in the best way possible. From the moment I read the premise, I was hooked, its one of those books I went and got from the book store the day it came out because I couldn’t wait for shipping. Its about a girl, Jet, trying to solve her own murder. It’s absolutely unhinged in the best thriller way. And Holly Jackson somehow managed to not only pull it off, but completely blow my mind in the process.

Jet Mason is such a compelling main character. She’s messy, frustrated with her own life, and suddenly forced to look at everything differently. I loved watching her go from passively floating through life to being absolutely determined to figure out who attacked her and why. The stakes could not be higher, and that ticking seven day clock adds an intense, almost suffocating pressure to every choice she makes.

The setting of Woodstock, Vermont was also perfect. It feels small, insulated, and full of secrets, which made the suspicion hit even harder. Everyone is a potential threat: her family, her ex, her former best friend. I genuinely didn’t trust anyone by the halfway point.

And then the big reveal happened. I literally screamed. I did not see it coming, but when I looked back, the clues were there. That is my favorite kind of thriller, shocking, but earned. It didn’t feel cheap or random, it felt smart.

This book is fast paced, emotional, and honestly kind of heartbreaking in a quiet way too. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to accept my death in 7 days the way Jet does and how she makes her last 7 days count.

If you love a twisty, character-driven thriller that you can’t put down and will think about long after the final page, Not Quite Dead Yet is an absolute must-read.
