Books That Have Been on My Physical TBR the Longest
If you’re anything like me, you probably have a stack of books that you swear you’re going to get to soon, but somehow they just keep collecting dust. I thought it would be fun (and maybe a little motivating) to take a look at the books that have been on my physical TBR the longest. These are the ones that have survived multiple unhauls and still make me excited when I look at them, I just haven’t actually opened them yet.
Here are 10, plus why I think they’re still unread:
1. The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean
This has been sitting on my shelf since it came out. The premise sounds really cool, a secret society that literally eats books to absorb their knowledge. I even have a Book Eaters fanny pack. But it also feels like the kind of dark, atmospheric fantasy that I need to be in a very specific mood for and it just has not hit me yet.
2. Voyage of the Damned by Frances White
I grabbed this because it promised murder mystery vibes, and the book is absolutely stunning. But I think I’ve been intimidated by its length and worried about the locked room mystery style not being my favorite.
3. The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi
This one intimidates me a little. Everyone calls it dark, lush, and gothic, which sounds incredible — but also like something I need to read when I can just sit down and soak in the atmosphere.
4. Babel by R.F. Kuang
This book is very thick and I am not even 100% sure what it is about. I know a lot of people either love it or hate it, I am worried I won’t understand it. I definitely need to get over that fear asap though, as I now also have Katabasis.
5. Starling House by Alix E. Harrow
I just never reach for this one, but I want to read something written by this author very bad. I am interested in all their recent work and I just cant justify buying it until I get this knocked off my TBR.
6. Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas
I picked this up because I’m a Maas fan and I thought it would be fun to see her take on a superhero story, and be able to say I have read all her published work. But superhero books aren’t usually my thing, so it keeps getting pushed aside.
7. The Winter King by C.L. Wilson
I’ve heard this is such a good fantasy romance, but it’s also very long and I am worried I wont get into it.
8. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
I want to get into Sanderson’s books, and according to his website this was a good place to start. While I own a couple more books by him, I am just intimidated by how large his world is and I just haven’t taken the plunge yet.
9. Mortal Follies by Alexis Hall
This one sounds like such a cozy, queer, historical romcom, but despite reading almost 50 pages multiple times, I just never get into it, but I am not ready to give it up either.
10. The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo
Another book I have read some of, it just didn’t grip me and I got caught up reading other things. I definitely plan to go back to it though.
Even though these have been sitting on my shelf for a long time, I’m still looking forward to reading every single one. I like having a TBR that gives me options depending on my mood, and these are books I know I’ll get to when the timing feels right.
